 Ka Pomblang Nongkrem,
Shillong, Meghalaya


 
An event for Thanksgiving and prayer for a good Harvest, Peace and prosperity. Ka Pomblang Nongkrem is the most important festival of the Khasis in Meghalaya. This five-day long festival, held annually near Shillong, Khasi men and women, dressed in traditional splendor, perform the famous nongkrem dance. The festival is a colourful gala event and is enjoyed by one and all.
Lucknow Festival,
Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh
This festival celebrates Lucknow's living culture. The capital city of Uttar Pradesh is alight with excitement during this ten day long event. Colorful processions, traditional dramas, Kathak dances in the style of the famous Lucknow gharana, sarangi and sitar recitals along with ghazals, qawalis and thumri create a festive atmosphere. Exciting events like ekka races, kite flying, cock fighting and other traditional village games recreate an atmosphere of Avadh's nawabi days. The festival is one of the most important event of Lucknows cultural diary.
Sonepur Mela,
Sonepur, Bihar
Asia's biggest cattle fair a month-long fair is held at Sonepur on the banks of the River Ganga, You will amazed by the volume of business that takes place in this fair, the cattle's are beautifully coloured and in somewhat strange attire in order to attract its customer. Apart from the Cattle many other domestic animals are on sale. The women folk also gets a chance to buy some household items even jewellery and other antiquities from the fair.
Pushkar Mela (The Camel Fair), Pushkar, Rajasthan The placid, serene Pushkar is transformed into a spectacular fair ground for twelve days in the month of Kartik. Trading of cattle The exact date on which the Camel Fair is held depends on the lunar calendar but, in Hindu chronology, it falls on the full moon of Kartik Purnima . Each year, up to 200,000 people flock to Pushkar for the Camel fair, bringing with them some 50,000 camels and cattle for several days pilgrimage, horse dealing camel racing and spirited festivities. This is one of India's largest and most flamboyant festivals- don't forget to bring your camera and plenty of film. Camel races and dazzling displays of bangles, brassware, clothes, camel saddles and halters are the major attractions of this colourful event. The fair also attracts some folk musicians who perform the traditional Rajasthani music and Dance, the event will mesmerise your being into the fairy tale land of Arabian Tales.. Devotees come in their thousands to take a ritual dip in the lake on the day of the Kartik Purnima and to worship at the Brahma temple. Which is only one of its kind in the whole world. The Live stock traders, takes this fair very seriously. Many travels hundred of miles away with the sole intend of trading. It will be held from the 9th of November this year (2000) and will continue till the 11th of November. However it is suggested that you travel here several days prior to these commencement to see the camel and cattle trading at its peak.
Hampi Festival,

The magnificent ruined city of Hampi, once the capital of the Vijayanagar Empire, comes alive once again during this lively festival of dance and music, held in the first week of November.
