Khajuraho Dance Festival, Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh

Every year in March, these splendid temples come alive during the weeklong festival of classical dances. This Dance Festival can be in short called as a rich assembly of classical exponents and expert dancers of various forms, it give the rare chance to witness this musical extravaganza, with the background of the temples of Khajuraho makes it ever more enchanting. The thousand year old temples at Khajuraho, built by the Chandella kings, are majestic structures sculpted in stone. Only 22 of these temples remain today, to bear testimony to the craftsmanship of Chandella builders.

Shivratri All over India

Shivratri is observed as the night, when Lord Shiva danced the 'Tandav' - his cosmic dance. Fasts and prayers mark the day and devotees throng the temples. The major Shaivite temples at Varanasi, Kalahasti Andhra Pradesh and Chidambaram Tamil Nadu are noted for their special celebrations. This festival is observed throughout India. Shivratri Natyanjali Festival Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu Shivratri is the occasion for a five day long festival of classical dance and music at Chidambaram. The magnificent temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, built a thousand years ago, provides a beautiful backdrop for the event.

When the language is colour the expression is love and the season is spring It cant be anything but Holi we are referring, Holi is a festival which brings youthful atmosphere it breaks all the cultural barriers if any existed it passes the message of celebration, joy and merriment. Celebrated all over North India, Holi is a time to make merry. People smear each other with coloured powder. Singing and dancing add to the gaiety of the occasion. In Anandpur Sahib, Sikhs celebrate a special festival Hola Mohalla on the day after Holi. The display of ancient martial arts and mock battles, are part of this unique festival. The Holi celebrations in Mathura and the small towns of Brai Bhoomi - the land of Sri Krishna, are spectacular. The Rang Gulal Festival is celebrated for over a week with exuberant processions, songs and music. Especially famous is the Lathmaar Holi of Barsana and Nandgaon, This holi is unique and one should not miss a date with it.

As the name suggests, elephants are the center of attraction in this festival; one will be amazed seeing Elephant polo matches, elephant races, and the most interesting event, a tug of war between the elephants and men. Ellora Festival,

The magnificent rock-cut caves at Ellora-34 in number were excavated between 600 and 1000 AD. They include Buddhist, Hindu and Jain. Every March, a festival of dance and music is organized here, with the caves forming a splendid backdrop. India is blessed with different forms of fol k entertainment and dances. They differ not only in style, but also in their presentation, the songs, the attire, and even the musical instruments. The only unison is that they all have to be based on taal and ragas. This uniqueness is not found in classical dances of other lands, in which India excels.
