This is true Mowgli country! Although Rudyard Kipling never himself visited Pench National Park, he based his epic story ‘Jungle Book’ on writings about this area by others such as Sleeman, Forsyth and Sterndale. This park, located 95 kilometers from nagpur, lies on the border dividing the states of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. It covers an area of 292.85 sq. km. but when combined with the buffer and neighbouring Mowgli Sanctuary, totals up to 757.89 sq. km. Drained by the river Pench, the park has a large variety of wildlife, the most sought after by wildlife enthusiasts being tigers, leopards, bison, bears and wild dogs. It is also a birders’ paradise with over 200 species on view. The number of captors visible is one of the highest reported by birding enthusiasts.

Getting there

Only a one-and-a-half km drive from Nagpur on an excellent road which makes it easily accessible.
