Parambikulam is nestled beautifully in a valley between the Anamalai ranges of Tamil Nadu and the Nelliampathy ranges of Kerala. Located in the Pallakad district, it covers an area of 285 sq. km. of excellent jungle. There are three reservoirs in the sanctuary which together cover a sizeable 28 sq. km. The sanctuary was once a commercial belt for teak plantations but now the same area is being protected and the forest being thoughtfully rejuvenated. Besides being rich in mammal species, the sanctuary has an excellent variety of close to 250 bird species. Upto 40 species can be spotted from the balconies of the accommodation huts.

Getting there

The sanctuary is only accessible by road. The nearest railway stations are at Palakkad (58 km) and Coimbatore (90 km). Jeeps, taxis, buses are also available.
