CENTIVES >> KANHA

Besides being one of the best, Kanha is also one of the largest national parks in India. Its core zone covers and area of 940 sq. km. while the buffer is 1,005 sq. km. It has varied topography with altitudes varying between 450 meters to 950 metres above mean sea level. The vegetation most noticeable to visitors on safari are the huge bamboo, sal and teak trees all over the park. The park, however, is most famous for its tigers, as are almost all the reserves in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Sightings are frequent and local jeep operators actually offer visitors a money-back guarantee with regard to tiger sightings in summer. The park is also famous for its rare barasinghas, which went down to as low as 66 in number, but, thanks to excellent conservation efforts, have been revived to around a thousand. Kanha, with its plateau, hills and large meadown, is also one of the most scenic parks in the country.
