BEST TIME TO ORGANISE A MICE EVENT :  October – February

Widely known as the ‘Pink City ‘, the princely city of Jaipur was color washed pink to welcome Prince Albert, the consort of Queen Victoria of England who visited India in 1883 A.D.It is the vibrant capital of the desert state of Rajasthan and a major attraction for the first-time visitor. Jaipur is surrounded on all sides by rugged hills, crowned with forts and enclosed by embattled walls. Fabulous, tall houses with latticed windows line the narrow streets of the old city, their rose pink colour lending enchantment to a scene, which is almost magical at sunset. Till date all houses in the old city follow the norm of color pink. Jaipur is the only city in the world, which is sub-divided in to nine rectangular sectors symbolizing nine divisions of universe. It is the first planned city designed in accordance with ‘Shilpa Shastra’- epochal treatise of Hindu architecture.

The most famous of Jaipur’s architectural Jewels is the Amber fort-palace, a superb example of Rajput architecture, stunningly situated on a hillside and overlooking a lake that reflects its terraces and ramparts. This beautiful fort has the famous Jai Mandir or hall of victory, the world renowned Sheesh Mahal -- a hall full of mirrors. The walls and the ceiling of the Mahal are covered with a beautiful array of mirrors, which reflects any streak of light, so as to illuminate the entire room. The fort also holds the Diwan-i-Am, or hall of public audience, with a double row of columns and latticed galleries above. Next to it is a small Kali temple.

Getting there

There is so much to see in Rajasthan, and even though you may not have the time to explore the entire state, Jaipur can give you a good feel of the State, and is a worthwhile add-on destination to your business trip or holiday itinerary, as it is easily linked to the capital city of Delhi, being its neighboring state, as well as to Mumbai, the commercial capital of India. From Delhi, the road journey is particularly convenient because of the smooth highway connects with Jaipur, so that the distance of 258 km can be covered in a little over three hours by road. It also forms a part of ‘The Golden Triangle’, and is only 232 km from the city of the Taj Mahal, Agra. So, a Delhi-Agra-Jaipur trip can be a great Incentive trip as well. You could hire a private taxi, or use the network of excellent luxury buses that run throughout the circuit.

Jaipur is also well connected by trains. The Shatabdi Express and The Pink City Express leave Delhi daily every morning, and arrive at Jaipur station, which is in the heart of town, around 11am, giving you enough time for sightseeing. However, if one has money and leisure, there is no better option than the Palace-on-Wheels, which takes a week long tour through the entire state of Rajasthan, with its first stop in Jaipur. Trains originating from Jaipur link the city with Mumbai, Calcutta, Sawai Madhopur and Kota.

A number of domestic airlines serve this city, and it has regular connections to Delhi, Agra, Lucknow, Mumbai, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Udaipur, Aurangabad, Ahmedabad and Secunderabad.
