Keoladeo Ghana national Park, named after the temple located within its boundaries, is more popularly known as ‘Bharatpur’. Although spread only across 29 sq. km., it is famous across the world for its excellent population and variety of bird species. A large number of these species, about 400, also breed here. During the winter months, visitors come to Bhartpur to catch a glimpse of the migratory Siberian Crane. Although the park does have abundant deer and blue bull populations, there are only few other animals including jungle cats. Some reliable sources have also spotted a wandering tiger in the more dense areas of the forest only a few years ago.
Getting there
Bharatpur is located slightly off the main Delhi-Agra highway. It is accessible by road as well as by train. The total driving time is approximately 4 hours to get to Bharatpur, from Delhi, depending on the conditions of the roads between Mathura and Bharatpur.
