Bandhavgarh National Park, which covers an area of 437 sq. km. is nestled amidst the Vindhya hills in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The reserve, once the hunting ground of the Maharaja of Rewa, is bounding with a huge variety and population of wildlife. Although the tiger is the main attraction here, the park is also home to 21 other mammal species. Bandhavgarh is also a birders’ paradise with close to 300 species. The park offers an enchanting ambience – age-old ruins, caves with ancient paintings, a huge reclining statue of Lord Vishnu, ancient temples and a majestic fort that towers over the entire forest. The jungle itself is lush with large patches of sal and bamboo interspersed with vast grasslands.

 Getting there

For those wanting to fly in, the closest airport is at Khajuraho from where a 6-7 hour bumpy drive will get you to the park. Umaria and katni are both well connected by train and short drives from there will get you to the resort.
